Objective
The objective of this piece was to create playing card designs for a specific art time period.
Process
Originally I had sketched out concepts for three time periods: Art
Deco, Bauhaus and Art Nouveau. We were using Illustrator for this
project, so I selected my Bauhaus concept to move forward with
because it felt the most consistent style wise. I did research colours
and shapes of the Bauhaus movement to keep within the time
period’s style. I ended up using a bright red and blue for my design
because the colours were often used in Bauhaus style.
To create this piece I worked in Illustrator and I worked with shapes to create an iconic layout that could be mirrored for the face cards to keep them reversible.
One challenge that I faced was correctly lining up all the hearts and numbers for the cards. I used guides in file to alleviate my issue making this project complete.
